Our Vapor Glock ported barrel and slide combos are made with matched porting, which goes a long way towards reducing recoil, even in the absence of a compensator, which normally fills that role.
Basically, the barrel that’s paired with these Glock 19 slides has ports near the muzzle, on both sides of it, actually, and angled upwards at approximately 45°.
This configuration lets some of the high-pressure gasses escape the bore before reaching the muzzle itself; the net force is concentrated not only backwards at the shooter, but pushes the muzzle down.
This counteracts felt recoil as well as muzzle flip, which helps enable faster, more accurate follow up shots.
But it’s not all these combos offer; the Glock slides paired with them have matched porting, which helps ensure that the gasses are ported efficiently and don’t get trapped under the slide.
Moreover, the angle at which the porting lies splits the sight picture, helping to prevent gas and smoke from obstructing the sight picture when you need to make rapid follow up shots after reacquiring the target.
In the X1 Glock 19 Slide: Precision Cut Windows

In our X1 Glock 19 slides, the main feature that impacts recoil reduction is the set of precision cut windows along the slide.
Though they don’t port gasses, expressly, as in the case of our Vapor combos, they do considerably lighten the overall slide.
This, in turn, lightens the reciprocating mass of the gun, which has a twofold effect on recoil reduction which will be explored here.
Reciprocating and Static Mass
There are two concepts that underlie mass in a firearm; one is reciprocating mass and the other is static mass.
Static mass is the portion of mass that does not move with the cycling of the action. So the frame, the grips, in some instances, the barrel – all of these are portions of static mass.
Reciprocating mass constitutes all the components of a firearm that cycle with the action – so in the case of a Glock handgun, the biggest contributor to reciprocating mass is the slide.
What’s important to take away from this is that reciprocating mass increases recoil, and static mass helps absorb recoil.
So, the heavier the frame of a handgun is, the better it will absorb recoil; the lighter the slide, the less recoil it will produce in the first place.
It seems apparent at first thought that our X1 Glock 19 slides would then reduce recoil by simply weighing less, but they actually have a twofold effect on recoil reduction.
The first effect is fairly obvious. Since they are lighter than factory Glock 19 slides, they produce less actual recoil to begin with.
But the other prong of this is that they fundamentally change the ratio between static mass and reciprocating mass.
Per Glock, the Gen 5 G19 weighs just over 30 ounces, and that’s with a standard loaded magazine – and a standard factory G19 slide.
Lower the weight of the whole outfit by replacing the factory slide with an X1 slide and you’re not just cutting the weight of the whole platform, you’re reducing the ratio between the two components of mass.
So on one hand, the whole thing is lighter – but the portion of that mass that was static to begin with stays the same. On the other hand you are lightening only the portion of mass that cycles.
The result of which is that you have an even more dramatic reduction in recoil and muzzle flip than you’d have otherwise.
Other Value Adds
Our Glock 19 slides also offer the following benefits:
- They’re available in several different wear and corrosion-resistant finishes that are long-lasting, exceptionally durable, and compatible with multiple aesthetics.
- They’re “combat cut” for RMR-pattern red dot sights and other optics. There’s no need to modify these Glock slides to install an optic; assuming the footprint is compatible you can mount one at home with only basic tools.
- In the case of our X1 slides, they’re compatible with other slide components (subject to generational Glock compatibility).
- In the case of the X1, they’re made with heat-treated and stress-relieved 416R stainless steel that is extremely strong and corrosion-resistant for high performance and a long service life.
- They’re designed to make it easy to replace the Glock sights with upgrades such as Glock night sights.
- Like other official NineX19 parts, they’re made in the United States to an exceptionally high standard of quality.
