Let’s talk about Glock upgrades for a minute. Let’s let Glock sights and triggers be for a moment.
With respect to performance, handling and recoil reduction, one of the most impactful upgrades you can make is with a Glock ported barrel and slide combo – specifically a Vapor combo from NineX19.
How These Glock Ported Barrel and Slide Combos Boost Performance
Basically, our Vapor barrel and slide combos consist of a barrel and slide that have matched porting.
This design is superior to simply installing a ported barrel; if the slide is not also ported, that gas ported near the muzzle will not be distributed evenly, which counteracts the whole purpose of recoil reduction.
With that said, let’s take a closer look at some of the key benefits of upgrading your Glock with one of these combos.
1. Recoil reduction
The main advantage of installing a slide and barrel combo with matched porting is recoil reduction.
The matched porting on the slide releases the gasses vented at the ports on the barrel; this results in a lower net force of recoil, which can help diminish shooter fatigue and result in more accurate shots.
2. Less muzzle jump, faster, more accurate follow up shots.
In addition to reduced recoil, our Vapor Glock ported barrel and slide combos also reduce muzzle jump.
Also called muzzle flip and muzzle rise, muzzle jump refers to the proclivity of the muzzle to “jump” upwards when you pull the trigger.
The higher the muzzle jump, the more your sights shift off the target and obstruct your sight picture when you shoot. This requires the shooter to actively correct and get the sights back on target.
It also means it takes more time to make follow up shots. With lower muzzle jump comes an enhanced ability to make faster, more follow up shots by keeping your sights trained on target.
3. Snappier cycling
Because the matched porting on these barrel and slide combos release gasses effectively and reduce recoil, they reduce in snappier, potentially more rapid cycling, enabling faster shooting.
If this is your main concern, there is one other upgrade you could make to your Glock without changing the barrel. Our X1 Glock slides feature CNC-machined windows that result in a lower overall weight.
These Glock slides offer lower reciprocating mass, which results in faster, snappier cycling, and for what it’s worth, they can reduce recoil slightly as well.
4. A clearer sight picture
This is one of the key advantages of our Vapor ported barrel and slide combos, specifically. The design of these combos places the matched porting at oblique angles on the sides of the muzzle.
This is different from conventional muzzle devices, specifically compensators, that port gasses directly over the front of the muzzle. This configuration, while it significantly diminishes muzzle jump (and overall felt recoil) clouds the sight picture with hot gas and fouling.
Our configuration ports gasses so that they split the front sight, keeping your sight picture clear so you never lose the target.
Other Notes
While these benefits enumerated communicate the main advantages of our Vapor Glock ported barrel and slide combos, there are others:
- The barrels that come with these combos are CNC-machined from 416R stainless steel and available with black and gold nitride finishes. This alloy is exceptionally corrosion resistant and even more so when outfitted with these finishes.
- Our Glock barrels feature match grade target muzzle crowning along with an updated barrel hood design.
- Our Glock slides are optic-ready, with a “combat cut” that is compatible with RMR-pattern red dot sights and optics.
- Upgrading your Glock sights is easy with one of our Glock slides, since they feature rear dovetails with an index dimple that makes centering sights easy. Plus, with our Glock sights, two heights are available allowing for use with most muzzle devices as well as co-witness with optics.
- The combo kit comes with a brass channel liner that is strong, durable, wear and corrosion resistant, and designed for tool-free installation and removal.
Time for a Glock Upgrade?
While our Vapor ported barrel and slide kits represent a significant Glock upgrade, they are not the only ones we offer here at NineX19. Check out our full collection that includes compensators, sights (including Glock night sights) triggers, threaded barrels, Glock magwells, and more.
An enhanced Glock that handles favorable, generates less recoil and muzzle flip, and reloads more quickly is only a few clicks and a short session at the bench away. Take the initiative, re-outfit your Glock and see what you’ve been missing in terms of performance.
As always, if you have any questions about the parts or Glock upgrades we sell, or about compatibility, get in touch with us directly and we would be more than happy to assist.
