We simply prefer to remove that extra layer when the slide is designed around one proven footprint.
With a direct RMR cut, the optic mounts directly to the slide. That keeps the installation lower and eliminates the intermediary plate.
Why Lower Optic Height Matters
Mounting the optic as low as practical keeps the dot closer to the pistol’s natural sighting plane. For many shooters, that makes the transition from iron sights to a red dot feel more intuitive and reduces the adjustment needed to find the dot during presentation.
A lower optic also makes it easier to retain a practical co-witness with backup iron sights without relying on unusually tall sights.
