Major Glock 19 Parts and Their Function

Major Glock 19 Parts

The Glock 19 is one of the country’s most popular handguns and is widely owned and carried by law enforcement personnel as well as civilians all over.

Reliable, simple, easy to maintain, accurate, and expandable and customizable with a wide range of aftermarket Glock parts and shooting accessories, they are among the best 9mm handguns on the market.

With that said, here are some of the major Glock 19 parts along with what their function is.

Frame

The polymer frame of a Glock 19 pistol is the part to which all other parts are either directly or indirectly joined. As a result, this is the Glock part that is serialized and regulated by the ATF as the firearm itself, requiring an FFL transfer. Glock 19 frames are made of polymer, like other Glock frames, which keeps them lightweight and lower required maintenance, as polymer, unlike steel, will not rust.

Slide

The slide is the upper portion of the Glock 19 that reciprocates with the action of the firearm. It contains the barrel, slide components, and major portions of the action. Many aftermarket Glock 19 slides are lighter and made with machined windows that lower reciprocating mass, reducing recoil and allowing for smoother, faster cycling.

Slide Catch

The slide catch is a lever on the left side of the slide which locks the action open when the gun is empty or when the last round has been fired.

Glock Sights

Your Glock 19’s sights are mounted to the slide. Standard Glock sights are made of polymer. The purpose of the sights is to provide a reference of alignment so that you can connect with your target. Aftermarket metal Glock sights, and radioluminescent Glock night sights, generally represent a valuable upgrade from the stock parts.

Recoil Guide and Spring

Your Glock slide will also contain the recoil guide and recoil spring. The stock recoil guide is a polymer plug that keeps the recoil spring straight as it is compressed, through the action cycle. The spring stores energy and recycles it to return the slide and action to battery once the spent cartridge has been ejected.

Glock 19 Barrel and Muzzle Device

The Glock 19 barrel performs the same function as the barrel of any other firearm. It chambers the round and traps gasses behind it to propel it out of the firearm. Like most other handgun barrels, Glock 19 barrels are rifled so as to spin-stabilize the bullet before it leaves the muzzle, resulting in higher accuracy.

If the barrel is threaded, the barrel may also contain a muzzle device. The most common muzzle devices paired with Glock pistols are compensators that change how gasses are vented at the muzzle, resulting in lower felt recoil, less muzzle flip, and potentially faster, more accurate, follow up shots.

Trigger

The trigger actuates the release of the trigger spring and firing pin, which contacts the primer at the base of the cartridge, igniting the propellant charge within, and accelerating the bullet through the bore and out of the barrel.

Glock Mag Catch and Release

The Glock mag catch is that part that catches the magazine and locks it in place until the release is depressed, which unlatches the magazine so that it can be dropped free of the gun.

Glock Magwell

The Glock magwell is the base of the mag chute, into which the magazine is inserted when loading the gun. Some aftermarket Glock magwells feature flared bases and improved ergonomics, potentially streamlining reloading and reducing reload speeds.

Grip

The grip is actually a part of the frame, as in Glock pistols the grip is integral with the frame, though this is not the case for all handguns. This part of the gun is the part you handle when firing; inside the grip is the magazine chute where rounds are stored.

Rail

The Glock frame also integrates a small accessory rail which is underneath the slide. This rail is useful for expanding the Glock 19 with shooting accessories like weapon-mounted lights or lasers.
